Wolf! Wolf! story | The boy who cried wolf

Aesop’s Wolf! Wolf! story

A shepherd boy was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!”

The villagers came running up to help the boy. But when they arrived at the hill, they found that there was no wolf. The boy laughed in amusement.

A few hours later the boy shouted again, “Wolf! Wolf!Help!”

The villagers yet again trusted the boy and came for help.

They were very angry to find that there was no wolf again.

The boy just grinned and watched them leave with a grumble.

Sometime later he saw a real wolf prowling about his flock. Frightened to the bone he shouted “Wolf! Wolf! Help”
But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again this time.

And so they didn’t come.

Later in the day the boy was found weeping with his flock scattered.

“There really was a wolf this time! I cried out, “Wolf! Help!” Why didn’t anyone come?” he questioned.

A village elder comforted him and said “Nobody believes a liar…even when he is telling the truth!”
